Single sourcing images within an output type

Post by ILWriter »

I know you can easily single source images for online and print outputs. Is there a way to single source images within the same type of output? For example, say that you were going to send a PDF print output to a printer for a physical copy to be produced (thus wanting 300 dpi images) but you also wanted a PDF that was optimized for viewing on a computer screen (thus wanting somewhere around 96 dpi). Is there a way to single source the images using Capture, but have different settings for different print outputs? Or is there a way to set a print output to use online output image settings? I'm really hoping to avoid having two copies of the same image at different dpi.

Thanks!

Have you tried having two different targets, one for printing and one for online? I'm not looking at the specific page, but I'm pretty sure you can set up the resolution of images in the PDF Output tab of the properties for the target. (But I could be wrong, so please wait for further info from the experts.)

Thanks for the reply. I already have two different targets, but they are both of the same type (pdf). Down-sampling would work if that was the only thing I wanted to change about the image, but I was hoping to be able to edit other settings that are offered with capture as well. So I'm really looking for a way to single-source images but give them different settings depending on the output (even if it is the same type of output).

How about trying different mediums in your stylesheet (or different stylesheets if that's how you work) - one for one type of PDF, the other for the other. I found this was necessary on a previous project where I was creating a QG with rather small text and a larger UG with normal text, but wanted to use the same topics in both. I expect that would be a way to give different attributes to images but I didn't need to look at images in what I was doing. Worth a look though.
