Hello everyone,
I am getting an Object reference not set to an instance of an object during a PDF build. It processes through the entire TOC, linking cross references, then always errors out at "Creating Chapters..." I have attached the build message window below. Any idea where it Creates chapters to find the error?
Thank you,
Andrea

Re: Object not set to a reference
Maybe try setting your object reference to the instance of an object and see how you get on...

Although unhelpful, still funny.

Re: Object not set to a reference
You wouldn't read about it, but I got the exact same message just now. I tried building the primary target when nothing was selected as the primary. Maybe something like that is happening in your case (for example, maybe you are trying to use the default TOC in your target but there is no TOC set as the master).

Re: Object not set to a reference
I have 23 chapters and 22 of them build and just not this last one. I opened on of the chapters that works and compared it against this one and they are exactly the same. I've double checked and the target has everything set (not just defaults) and still no luck. Good idea, but do you have another

You could open the TOC file in a text editor and compare the XML, see if anything looks fishy. You could even delete that last chapter and re-create it to see if that fixes it.alaltenburg wrote:I have 23 chapters and 22 of them build and just not this last one. Re: Object not set to a reference
I have a PDF and an HTML Help build for each chapter and the HTML Help works perfectly, so I'm not about to delete and start the entire chapter over because that's way too much work.
I will try to compare XML code though. Thank you for that thought

I meant to start the chapter in the TOC over, not re-write the chapter, in case that wasn't clear.alaltenburg wrote:I have a PDF and an HTML Help build for each chapter and the HTML Help works perfectly, so I'm not about to delete and start the entire chapter over because that's way too much work.

Re: Object not set to a reference
Since the HTML Help build was working fine, I decided only to delete the Print Only TOC topics and one of them is the culprit. I am not sure as the exactly why, but when I deleted the print only, the build went through without any problems. So I am still working on the exactly culprit, but I at least have it narrowed down.
