Hello all,
Does anybody know of a way to tell in which project(s) a snippet might be used?
We have chosen to take the Global Project Linking route. We have a parent project with the sole pupose of serving as a content repository. Other than stylesheets, page layouts, and such, almost everything is a snippet... from field descriptions to procedures. It does not output to anything. Then, we have 11 child projects linked to the parent project. In the child projects, we set up the topic shells and "pull in" the snippets. If we change a snippet in the parent project, is there a way to tell which child projects we need to re-import to and re-build without opening and searching every single one?
Thanks for any advice,
Heather

Re: How to tell where snippets are used
I've never used the global project linking option, so I can't test to see if this works, but in a master project, right-click on a snippet file and select Show Dependencies and see if it indicates the projects that have linked to it. That feature might only work if it's used in that project, not a child project, but give it a shot.

Hi Lisa - yeah, I was hoping that would work, too, but no luck. It will only show dependencies within that particular project. Thanks for your thoughts.

Make sure you submit a feature request at http://www.madcapsoftware.com/bugs/submit.aspx. Seems like a project used in global linking should be able to keep track of which projects touched it to pull its info. Although it might be hard to keep that info updated in the other direction. (That is, you add a snippet from a global to a child project but then delete it from the child project -- the global project would need to be informed of that somehow.)

You'd think. Okay, if nobody else chimes in with something we've missed, I'll submit a feature request. Thanks a bunch!
Re: How to tell where snippets are used
Yes, i've put in a few requests on this as well...For globally imported projects, the ability to tell which global import source it is coming from. At the moment all you have is a 'chained' shortcut overlay i think. nonethelesss good suggestion! Post it up!
If you submit your bug feedback request here, the more likely it'll get fixed or included in a future release
