Wrapping before a slash
Wrapping before a slash
We have a couple topics discussing command line parameters, and noticed in the output that if a line contains a word with a leading slash, that is is wrapping the line on the word before that. I have attached an image of this. Is this something anyone else has encountered?

Re: Wrapping before a slash
Flare has a few glitches with wrapping in print output because it counts the characters in the backend of the topic code when it determines where to wrap. Usually the problem is if the text is wrapped in a span tag or some other tag and it's counting the tag. It doesn't appear as though there are span or other tags around that text that's wrapping, but there may be a CDATA or extra blank space in that line and the code is throwing it off. You might want to open that topic in the Internal Text Editor and see if there are any extra, unnecessary tags in that paragraph.

Re: Wrapping before a slash
Actually, I think the behavior there is frequently correct: slashes are typically used for dates, for alternatives (x / y, a / b, either / or, etc.). You want wrapped slashes to include the word before them many times. You would typically not want a slash to be the first or last thing on a line. Though I suppose you should be able to get the same effect using non-breaking spaces, so perhaps this should be a bug.

Makes sense - sort of an unintended consequence of handling dates in a certain way.
Until next time....

How do you do those in Flare? (I remember another topic that mentioned a way, but it was convoluted, I couldn't get it to work and I no longer remember what it was).Andrew wrote:I suppose you should be able to get the same effect using non-breaking spaces, so perhaps this should be a bug.

Note that they don't necessarily appear non-breaking in Flare's editor mind, it seems a bit ropey, but they do work in the preview and output.

Nope. That doesn't work for me. Thanks anyway.Dave Lee wrote: Press Shift + Space.

What do you mean it doesn't work for you? Nothing happens or you don't like the code it inserts?Cecily wrote:Nope. That doesn't work for me. Thanks anyway.Dave Lee wrote: Press Shift + Space.

Re: Wrapping before a slash
Pressing Shift+Space does the same as Insert > Character > Non-breaking space ; and it inserts the code in the topic.

It's non-breaking hyphens that I can't get to work.

Ah, to do that, select Insert > Character > Select 'Quick' Character, and type 8209 in the lower box (for unicode).Cecily wrote:I mean that I goofed! (Sorry.)LTinker68 wrote: What do you mean it doesn't work for you? Nothing happens or you don't like the code it inserts?

Then just press F11 whenever you want to use it in a topic (i.e. insert your quick character).
Note that it'll not show correctly in the editor (not for me anyway, I see a box), but it looks ok in the preview/output.

Brilliant. Thanks. I don't know why I couldn't get it to work before.Dave Lee wrote: non-breaking hyphens
