Search results not showing in HTML output

Post by Esther »

Hello all,

The HTML output from my project does not display any search results. So, whenever I type any word in the search text box and click Search, I always get zero matches in the search results pane.

Background:
We are using search filters and I have added all the concepts to my search filter file. Any ideas how to troubleshoot this issue?

TIA,
Esther

It just happened to me. It was fine first thing, then stopped working. The knowledge base article had the solution (though my bat file was in a different location), so thanks for the link, Lisa.

BUT, does anyone know what causes this and, more importantly, could it happen to an end-user (who would be less likely to know the solution)?

No, that's a side-effect of Microsoft's Help Viewer or the operating system. In other words, it's not a Flare problem. If you're installing the help with your application, perhaps your programmers could add a step to the installation procedure that registers the file.

I have seen if you install microsoft html help workshop it will unregister the dll, Also other help authoring tools can do that also.

I remember this fix working before, but on my new laptop (Windows 7, 64 bit with Flare 7.2), I can't find RegisterItcc.bat. What now?

Go back to that article. There's a note in there telling you what to do if you have Win7 64-bit. Or are you saying after following that you still can't find the file?

Can you find the folder?
The article says C:\Program Files (x86)\MadCap Software\MadCap Flare V6\Flare.app\Resources\bin ; but the 'V6' part will be 'V7' in your case.

If you can find the folder but there's no file there, then I'm not sure what to do other than reinstall Flare.

Aha. Yes, of course the V6 referred to the Flare version ( obvious when you stop to think about it). When I typed the correct path, it found the folder, so I was able to run the bat and now my searches work.

Thanks
