Hi there,
I have a new stylesheet and for some reaon my ordered lists never restart. In my old sheet ol always restarted after a particular style (body_level1). I can't figure out how to make this happen.
Thanks!
Paula
Restart numbering of ordered lists
Re: Restart numbering of ordered lists
By default <ol> styles will always restart at 1 unless you specifically go in and tell it to continue from a previous list in the same topic.
You might want to look at the styles defined in the stylesheet to see if it assigned a starting number. It might be easier to open the stylesheet in the Internal Text Editor to see the code.
The only other possibility I can think of is that you have inline code in the topics that have it to continue numbering or set it to start with numbering at something other than 1. Find a topic that isn't restarting the numbering and open it in the Internal Text Editor to see if there is any code inline on the <ol> tag.

Re: Restart numbering of ordered lists
The list always starts at 1 (which is good becasue that's what I want), but it never restarts within a single topic. I noticed when I looked at the text view the numbering is restarting as I expect, but in the xml editor it isn't.
I have attached images of the numbering in the xml editor and then in the text editor. Hopefully you can help! I'm not sure why it's happening.
Thanks,
Paula

Re: Restart numbering of ordered lists
Oh, you're using an auto-numbering scheme, not the HTML standard lists, which is what I was referring to when I said by default it would always start at 1. Auto-numbering schemes have a different set of rules than HTML standard lists. The XML Editor not displaying correctly could be because you're using an auto-numbering scheme or it could depend on how you have that scheme configured. The XML Editor doesn't always display everything exactly as it should, so it could just be one of those situations, too. Bottom line, if it looks OK in your output then I wouldn't worry about it too much. You could submit a bug report at http://www.madcapsoftware.com/bugs/submit.aspx.

Re: Restart numbering of ordered lists
I'm a bit confused why you're using autonumber lists there; normally you'd use them instead of using standard lists (ol li tags), not both combined.
Plus, the first half of the list is inside ul tags and the second half in ol tags.

Re: Restart numbering of ordered lists
Huh. Totally missed that. I focused on the MadCap:autonumber attribute and missed the parent tag completely. I'm curious about that, too, Paula -- why are you using HTML lists with the autonumber feature?
