Export Flare reports to XLS or CSV?

Post by laurenm »

I am running Flare 5 and generating some built-in reports, specifically Topics Linked By Map ID. (My users need a lookup resource to know how to link into Help bookmark aliases from emails or press releases.)

The report output is in HTM format. This is not useful for my developers. Am I missing a way to generate reports in CSV or other text-based file type?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Have you tried opening the htm file in Excel and saving it in another format?

It adds another step but might be a workaround...

Yes, and it may be the only option, but that requires stripping out a lot of html and style tags in order to just get the data. Perhaps I can request a future Flare enhancement.

it would be nice to have it as a simple csv. There's lots of analysis tricks you can pull in Excel or integrate into a Word documentation project plan.
If you submit your bug feedback request here, the more likely it'll get fixed or included in a future release

Agreed. I have posted this issue as an enhancement request with MadCap. And now I'm holding my breath to see if it makes the cut for a future release!

If any format, then it should be CSV. XLS is a proprietary format that cannot be easily processed by custom applications/scripts. Excel has no problems reading in a CSV file.
