PDF Style Problem using Automatic Indenting

Post by netmatt »

Not sure if that was a good topic name or not, but basically, if I use the "Use TOC depth for heading levels" for the printed PDF output, which is very helpful...it re-formats the style to the corresponging inherited H1/H2/H3 for those that get indented.

Unfortunately, this was all imported from Word, and my heading styles that I need are h1.heading1/h2.heading2/h3.heading3 :(

Can I:

1) Use that feature and use my styles?
2) Copy my styles to the default H1/H2/H3?

Any other ideas or warning on why not to do that?

I'd go with option 2. Make a backup of the project, just to be safe. Then open the stylesheet file in the Internal Text Editor. Delete the default h1, h2, h3, etc., styles, then scroll to where your h1.heading1, h2.heading2, etc., styles are located, and rename the styles to h1, h2, h3, etc. You'll then need to do a find-and-replace in Flare to change all the tags in the topics. So you'd do a find-and-replace in the source code looking for <h1 class="heading1"> and replace it with <h1>. Likewise with the other headings.

I only have 1 Style sheet in the Content Explorer, and it has no h1, h2 or h3. When I try and delete them from the Stylesheet Editor, it says they are inherited? Is there a default Flare Style sheet imposing its styles in my project?

In order to delete them you have to open the stylesheet file in the Internal Text Editor. Sorry, should have mentioned that. While you're in the file, you can also scroll down and rename the h1.heading1 to h1, and so on. Then save the stylesheet file and close it from the Internal Text Editor. Make sure you do the deletes and renames in both the default and print mediums and any other mediums you may have.

Something else you might consider when you import the Word document is to map "Heading 1" to "h1" rather than "h1.heading 1". This option is only available at the time of import if you set "Don't preserve MS Styles" on the import styesheet tab. You should get the right styles created in your stylesheet then, and won' have to make any changes.
