Questions about importing Japanese content from FrameMaker

I'm trying an experiment where I take a FrameMaker file that was translated into Japanese and try to bring the file into Flare using File > Import Project > Import FrameMaker Documents feature. I have East Asian fonts installed for XP. The file is able to come across into Flare, but I cannot seem to get the content into a Japanese font. The text looks like this: É|Å[É^ÉãÇýÇÕ. What am I dong wrong, or what don't I have set? I am lost at this point about how to get this working. Any advice or pointers to docs that explain how to do this properly are appreciated.

My problem was that I had an older version of FrameMaker and needed the latest version of it.
