Resizing image to pixel dimensions

Post by RamonS »

After capturing an image I want to resize it a specific pixel dimension so that it has the same dimension like the image it will be replacing. I enter as width 567, which in this case gives a height of 454. When I save the image as a PNG and then check the dimensions it is 312x253, which is clearly not what I specified.
What is going wrong?

In more general terms, I often face that I have to resize by a percentage, match a pixel dimension, or upconvert to a higher dpi. All three tasks seem to be very difficult in Capture and usually never generate the desired results. What is the best approach?
I used other tools such as SnagIt, but I find that the resulting quality is horrible.

Are you trying to resize the picture within Capture or Flare?

I typically will resize in Flare by using the XML editor for the topic.

I'm not that au fait with Capture, and I may be teaching you to suck eggs; but have you checked that the Background Scale setting isn't set to something other than 1.0 - (on the Properties, Image Effects tab) ? That would make your image turn out a different size to what you've set on the Format tab.

I must admit, I tend to use IrfanView or GIMP for any resizing jobs; as I don't often have much need for Capture.

I'm resizing in Capture, the image is to be used with Frame (booooo!). I checked and the background scale is set to 1. I'll try GIMP, maybe that works better and produces a decent quality. Thanks for the tips.

On the same note as resizing, I right click an image and go to File Properties > Format with the intention of set size for Print. When I resize, it shows correctly in the preview, but when I leave the properties window, the image does not resize. Then I go back to File Properties and it is back to saying screen.

Anyone else having issues, or what am I doing wrong? There is no save changes button.

I am right there with you -- but I think this is some kind of bug.

I import a 32-bit image (a TIFF) into Flare. The image is at 100 percent size for how it is going to be used in Flare. From Flare I open the image in Capture and set the file properties especially print properties. The image is a TIFF, 32-bit depth, sizing is set for print at 300 DPI. I close the File Properties dialog. I save the file. I open the File Properties dialog again and it says the file is saved for onscreen use, plus some of the other settings are back to online. No matter how I set things or where, I can't get Flare and Capture to retain the settings I want.

The Flare project is just for print, so the fact that neither holds the settings -- and I just built a test project that contains the same problem -- suggests a bug.

And why does this image manipulation stuff have to be so convoluted? Someone needs to show the developers how image manipulation works in other page layout programs. The current interface is a time-waster.
