Topic IDs - Automatic Generation

Post by Techno »

I'm struggling to find information in Flare 5's Help regarding the creation of what I knew in RoboHelp as "Topic ID's". Is this known by some other name in Flare? "Topid IDs" are listed in the Flare's Help Index, but the Subject that comes up is "Before you Import"!?

I have a project with over 1,000 Topics, many of which are used in Context Sensitive Help in the application.

So not only do I need to find out how to add Topic ID's, I'd also like to know if there is any automated way of doing this?

George.

Hi George,

Check the Flare help for information on alias files and header files. I have not used this yet myself, but will need to do it soon, and I believe there is an auto-assign feature of some kind.

Hope this points you in the right direction!

I think you are referring to the Topic Title, set from Topic Properties on the Topic Properties (again!) tab.

It was a while back that I imported a RH file, but I think I recall that the Topic Title was set to RoboHelp's TopicID.

The closest thing to automatically assigning a Topic Title AFAIK is to delete the content of the Topic Title input box. This will set the Topic Title to the same as the first topic heading.

You can do many files at once by displaying the files in the Content Explorer, doing a multiple select and performing a bulk change to the Topic Title entry.
Some mornings it just doesn't seem worth it to gnaw through the leather straps.
