Stop hyphenation in header

Post by RamonS »

Created a class for the p tag that has mc-hyphenate set to "never" and applied that to the paragraph in the header of the Page Layout. After saving and rebuilding the header content is still hyphenated. Is there any other way to programmatically turn hyphenation off?

What do you expect it to do if the content is too long for the line? Run off the printed page?

Break into the next line the way it does now, but I don't want it to look like this:

Windows Server 2008 R2 - Enabling SQL Server 2008 Express Net-
work Protocols

But rather like this:
Windows Server 2008 R2 - Enabling SQL Server 2008 Express
Network Protocols

Weird. Are you sure you set hyphenation to never in the print medium?

I had a similar issue this week, but I have some really long java methods that take up more than one line. I don't mind how they wrap in WebHelp output, but they wouldn't wrap nicely in PDF output. What I wish is that you could specify a hyphenation character to be either a space or a hyphen. That way long java-like methods or urls or such can still wrap, but without a hyphen. But that's clearly not your issue.

I reported that issue back early in v5. Same situation (applied to tag in page layout).

I'll check when I'm back at work (yes, this time it is for work, not just hobby).

OK, checked and mc-hyphenation is set to never for print medium as well. I also tried using different media type settings in the target and nothing makes a difference. This looks as if it is broken.

As I recall the same class works when you're in a topic -- it's only when you're using the class in the page layout that you have the problem.

Well, you know the "standard answer" so I won't repeat it here. :)

Yea, already filed a bug report. Given that this is a small, one time document I guess I will see that I get line breaks in manually and things fit so that they don't hyphenate. What is really annoying is that the hyphenation appears in a variable (topic heading level), so I'd need to place the static text in one paragraph and the variable in the next. As far as I know none of the topic headings is too long for one line.
That header and footer editor is really an odd thing. When switching between page layouts the contents of the editor do not change based on the page layout currently selected. I only noticed that after making 'changes' to one page layout, but really goofed up the other layout. And yes, I complained about that as well.

Hi,

Does anyone know if this issue has been resolved? I am having the same problem with hyphenation in the header for PDF output.
