Context-Sensitive Help & assigning identifiers to bookmarks

Post by MC Hammer »

Hello everyone,
I am producing HTML Help with Flare and would like to assign some of my identifiers to some bookmarks inside topics. Flare allows me to do this in the alias file. However, when testing the CSH mapping, I realised that none of these were working. I get a "Failed to launch Help" message. I first thought that this could be due to the fact that my bookmarks were inside a dropdown text body so I moved one bookmark from inside the dropdown text but the same error message got displayed when I pressed F1 on the relevant dialog.

Is this a know issue? Does this only work for WebHelp?
Thanks in advance for any reply!

We are using HTML Help, and have several alias links to bookmarks. Other than the HTML Help Compiler throwing a message stating that the file doesnt exist, we don't have any problems and the CSH calls work fine.

Are you getting any compile errors?
If you check the .H file and the .FLALI file in a text editor, do both have the same name? For example:

Code: Select all

#define About_The_Software 1001 (in the .H file)
<Map Name="About_The_Software" Link="/Content/about_window.htm#software101" /> (in the .FLALI file)
You may also want to check your output settings to see if you are using anything that is unneeded for HTML Help, like Mark of the Web or some WebHelp only formatting (Flare 6 removes these from the dialog, so its easier to avoid setting them now).

Hi Jason
Thank you for your input. The HH files and the alias file match up nicely and some CSH on bookmarks works (but not all of it). As far as the target settings are concerned, I checked them and they seem fine too.
Next step is to check with my developers that I am linking to the correct resource IDs in the case of the linking to bookmarks returns a "Help failed to launch" message. Apart from that, I cannot see what could cause these issues...
