Trouble with importing from Framemaker 7 into Flare 6

Post by rjhoughton »

I had issues with importing my Framemaker documents (version 7.0) into Flare version 6. Since this was successful in Flare 5, I was mystified.

I finally figured out it's because Flare 6 needed to be run as an administrator (I'm on Windows 7).
  • Right click on the shortcut, select Properties, then click the Compatibility tab.
Make sure "Run this program as an administrator" is checked in the Privilege Level section of the tab.
    Click OK.
The error I would receive said this: "Failed to connect to FrameMaker - perhaps it's busy. Do you want to try again?"

That could be a problem for some users -- some companies have security protocols that don't allow users to have administrative rights over their computers. I usually go for an exception because I need to be able to install/uninstall programs so I can capture screenshots of the install/uninstall process, so it's generally not a problem for me, but some users may not get that flexibility.

I wonder if it's Flare 6 in general or just Flare 6 running on Windows 7?
