PDF Build Error: Object reference not set to an instance ...

Post by tomjohnson1492 »

I keep receiving an error in my PDF build target. The error says " Object reference not set to an instance of an object." The compiler stops here:

Code: Select all

Linking cross-references...
Creating chapters...
: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Aborted.
Any ideas on how I might resolve this? Is there something about cross references or chapter creation that could be a problem I should investigate?

Tom

I did some troubleshooting. It turns out the div tags in the topic containing my TOC proxy caused the build error. The div tags just referenced a style that defined a width for the content. When I removed the div tags from that topic, the build error disappeared.

Well, obviously. That's what the error message indicated.

Thanks Ltinker. This is my favorite error message, by the way. I think Adobe should print up some shirts with this error message on it and give it away at the Summit. Then maybe Madcap would do something about the message.

(BTW, I know there are some other forum threads that discuss the vagueness of this error message at length.)
