Creating a snippet from DIV gives error msg

Post by MaryM »

Has anyone else received this error message when using the doc_guy's recommendation for creating snippets from a div? "Creating snippets from multiple blocks."
It is an IE script error, so I'm not sure if it's me or Flare.
Currently it doesn't appear to be preventing the creation of the snippets. And, they seem to behave as expected, but I hate just ignoring error messages.

Which version of Flare are you using? And do you know which version doc_guy wrote his instructions for? (I can't remember offhand where that source material is.)

It could be that the steps are different in Flare 6 than they were in 5 or 4.

Also what version of IE are you using? Each IE flavor seems to have its own quirks. I'm guessing by the date of the tut that it may be Flare ver 4. However, it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong.

I'm a bit anal about HTML and CSS. I usually copy the text I want then paste it into the snippet I created. Then open the snippet in the text editor and put in the divs, etc. I have to use a paragraph style that is indented and sometimes that will mess up how the snippet displays. Here and there I'd get an unexpected indent. So I qucikly got in the habit of checking the text file.

Flare doesn't always create the cleanest HTML I've noticed. I usually have to clean up lists as the sub lists will start doing something a bit wacky. I cringe when I see some of the HTML generated while using the GUI. I look at it this way though, at least you can clean it up and not have it overwritten the next time the file is opened!

I love snippets and variables since it's so easy to keep things standardized throughout projects. I copy them between projects for a suite of software then modify them for each application. I've also resorted to making sub folders since the procedures vary but often use the same individual steps. Some projects are extremely large and this is the only way to ensure I don't change the writing style along the way.

I create a whole mess of individual snippets in folders: Select, PageDisplays, Fields, TypeText, etc. I came up with this method after realizing how hard it was to continually come up with a unique short name! Just some food for thought.
