Rename conditional tag causes Flare to lose all settings?

Post by pdxwordsmith »

I just renamed some conditional tags and now it appears that all my conditional text and file settings are GONE. Is this unsupported? If so, a confirmation prompt would have been nice. How can I get them back?

Renaming a conditional tag in the conditional tag set does not automatically change the tags that are inserted in the topics. So you changed the name in the conditional tag set but everything is still pointing to the old name.

You'd have to do a find-and-replace in the entire project to change MadCap:conditions="Default.OldCondName" to MadCap:conditions="Default.NewCondName", where Default is the name of your condition tag set. Make sure you have the find-and-replace set to look in the source code and to search the entire project. Unfortunately, the find-and-replace won't work on TOC entries or on items in the Project Organizer (including the target), so you'd have to change those associations manually.

NOTE: When I was testing this, the first time I renamed it and did the find-and-replace, the topic didn't associate to the appropriate color until I shut down and restarted Flare (although I might have been fine just closing the project and reopening). But later when I renamed it back to PrintOnly it picked the color up immediately, and when I renamed it again, the topic didn't pick up the color but the TOC entry and target did. Bottom line, when you rename the condition, do a find-and-replace then close down the project and reopen it (and restart if necessary), then see if the TOC entries and Project Organizer items caught the change. If not, manually change them.

Also, submit a bug report at http://www.madcapsoftware.com/bugs/submit.aspx -- there's no reason why it shouldn't ask if you want to update the link to that conditional tag like it does when renaming and moving topics.
