Another Graphics Question

Post by mattman63 »

When I insert an image in a topic, I can display the properties for that image and set the resolution for both print and screen display. However, I don't appear to be able to do this when I insert an image frame with an image in a page layout. Am I doing something wrong? How do I make it display correctly? Currently, it displays too large.

Wow, must be quite a stumper. Still haven't figured it out in case anyone wants to offer a solution.

Hey! Look at that! I'm a Jr. Propeller Head now! Hah!

Funny, I feel just as ignorant as when I was a Baby Propeller Head.

I think it might depend on which version of Flare you have. It seems like in earlier versions I had to adjust the size of the frame containing the image and the image (if it was 300dpi) still looked too large, but it was fine in the generated output. In later versions I think I still had to manually adjust the size of the frame to match what the image should be, but the image didn't display larger than it should have. So in both cases, you have to manually modify the frame's size to match the printed dimensions of the graphic it contains. The difference was whether Flare could display high resolution images to fit inside that frame in the authoring environment, or if you had to live with too-large images in the authoring environment that were ok in the printed output.

In earlier versions you might not have had an option to specify inches for the dimensions, but I can't remember. I just opened a project created in v6 and it's correctly displaying a 300dpi image and the frame's dimensions are in inches. I opened in v6 a project that had been created in v5 (or maybe v4), and the image is too large and the dimensions are in px, but it outputs fine, although I haven't built that output in v6.

Sorry for the delay in response. I've been gone.

Alrighty, Lisa...I'll try outputting this thing even though it looks too big on the screen and see what happens. Thanks.

By the way, I have v5.
