Using Flare version 6 and version 4.2 on the same machine
Using Flare version 6 and version 4.2 on the same machine
Our company recently upgraded to version 6. Long story short, we need to be able to run both version 4.2 and version 6 on the same machine. Is this possible? Are there any complications I should consider first?

Yes, you can run multiple versions of Flare on the same computer.
And yes, there are some complications. Basically, like many products, you can go up but you can't go back down. In other words, if you create a project in 4.2 then open it in 6, you can't then re-open it in 4.2. Well, you can, but v6 would have made some modifications to the stylesheets and the topics that wouldn't be understood by 4.2, so you'd get errors and/or it could build the outputs.
So make a copy of all your 4.2 projects and open the copied versions in v6. That way you still have a workable version that you can go back to in v4.2, if you need to.

Re: Using Flare version 6 and version 4.2 on the same machine
We are moving between 4.2 and 6.1. The biggest problem we have is that in 6.1 I can't apply conditional text to the new graphics files I've created in 6.1. The project was a 4.2 project originally. Since the files are inserted into the Flare file (using Capture), the pdf output is fine. However, there is no conditional text applied. But if my coworker opens my files and applies the conditional text in 4.2, I see it in 6.1.
I am now going to create a totally new project to see if the conditional text is the problem or moving from 4.2 to 6.1 and back to 4.2 is the actual problem.

There are a lot of changes from 4.2 and 6.1 but they can run on the same, machine, just never have them work on the same project, Flare v4 would freak out with the v6 files, So your best bet it so work in v6 with a new project completely,
