I want to set up a numbered list that uses an autonumbered para tag (so cross-references to list items can include the list item number) and that has the format of an ordered list in which the autonumbers have a hanging indent and the body para text lines up on the left even when the text flows into multiple lines. How do I do that?
The goal is to achieve the look of an ordered list. My reason for this is to use cross-references such as "...then go to Step 7." where the cross-references update when you add list items and change the numbers (Like in FrameMaker, you know). I can't use ol because Flare is apparently incapable of showing the number of an ol ordered list item in a cross-reference. Have experimented with first line indent and autonumber offset but haven't found the perfect combination of settings.
Autonumbered list and x-refs
Re: Autonumbered list and x-refs
The fix for this (from Ryan at tech support): set up a class of the p tag with autonumbering and set mc-auto-number-position to outside-head. I then set mc-auto-number-offset to something (I picked 18 pt) and box:margin-left also to 18 pt. Once I created a cross-reference format that showed the paranum and bookmarked the numbered paragraphs to serve as cross-ref targets, all was (mostly) right with the world.
Re: Autonumbered list and x-refs
Thanks, Ron T. It's a miracle. I never would have figured that out. I tried many things like negative para indents, etc. Your solution worked and even 18pts was good for me.
