Resizeing images for print

Post by pdxwordsmith »

Flare 6, PDF output

The help says:

Resize with styles You can resize many images at once by using the <img> style tag in the Stylesheet Editor. Not only can you select a specific image size, but you can also set a maximum or minimum height or width. You can set either the width or height on the image tag and let Flare set the other property automatically, maintaining the aspect ratio (i.e., size proportion of the image). Using this method, you can take advantage of single-sourcing by also using a print medium in the style sheet. Simply specify one group of settings for the medium used for the online output, and use another group of settings for the medium used for print-based output. See About Style Sheet Mediums.

When I try to edit the img style to set the maximum width of images, Flare says "Apply Dialog failed: Specified method is not supported".

Hmmm...?

Oh, I see. You have to do this with the Advanced view. I think a better error message would be lovely.

Or the max-width, min-width, max-height, and min-height attributes should be available in the Stylesheet Editor when you have it set to Simplified view. I use the Advanced view, but when I was writing a post I wanted to mention where those attributes were and didn't see them, so I included instructions on setting the Stylesheet Editor to Advanced view first. You might want to submit a bug report at http://www.madcapsoftware.com/bugs/submit.aspx stating that those four attributes aren't available in Simplified view. Unless they're there and I missed them.

Nope, not there.

It's a personal pet peeve of mine when a UI exposes something to me, but then errors out when I try to do it. I mean, can't the UI just not show me the thing?

And...resizing. Jeez!
