TOC in PDF runs off the page

Post by kcann »

Hi

Has anyone seen this before? My TOC proxy generates a TOC that runs off the edge of the first page of the TOC rather than creating multiple pages. I suspect I have done something to my style sheet, but I'm not sure what to check.

Thanks!

Karen

Well, I solved my own problem. I had the 'table' style set to clear: both; float: left. I set those back to default and my TOC generated just fine.

Hope that's helpful to someone else!

I had this problem- - I fixed it using the css editor I set the tocProxy property called mc-page-type to "all" I am nost sure why this worked, but I noticed that the body proxy always does auto page breaks in print, so I just looked at the difference between the body proxy and the toc proxy and that is what I saw. Hope this helps.

Hello, all.

I've been doing WebHelp and CHM output through Flare for years, so I know my way around Flare pretty well, but feel a bit helpless now that I've been asked to provide some PDF output.

I worked my way through getting a TOC set up specifically for printed output, and I'm able to generate a PDF without any compile errors. I'm seeing the behavior described in this post, however—and not only in the TOC, but for all chapters of the output!

In other words, my Title Page is produced just fine in the PDF output, but then my TOC only shows up as one page, with its content "running off" the bottom of the page. I then get one page each for the content of each chapter in my project (which ought to occupy at least 20 or 30 pages per chapter). Just as with the TOC, the content for each chapter starts out just fine, but winds up running off the bottom of the page.

I'm using the "Start a new chapter document" option on the "Printed Output" tab of the Properties dialogue for each of the TOC elements representing a chapter. I tried generating the output without using this setting (just to see what might happen), but then I get only ONE page of output—my Title Page slammed together with the beginnings of the TOC, which then runs off the bottom of the page.

I tried adjusting my CSS settings per the suggestions here, but found that my bodyProxy already had its mc-page-type set to "all", and I set my tocProxy's mc-page-type to "all", as well, but to no avail.

As I mentioned I'm pretty new to the whole printed output scene, so I expect I might be missing something. I know I haven't provided all the details of my setup here, so if anyone can ask me the right questions to guide me toward a solution, I'd really appreciate it!

Thank you!
Austin Wright

Looks like I might be on my way toward a resolution already! I continued my search in the forum to see what I could find, and this post http://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewto ... 940#p62124 got me to thinking that I might be overriding the default CSS settings with my own stylesheet somehow, thus causing the behavior I'm seeing.

As a start, I simply removed the reference to my own stylesheet and let Flare do its thing. Voila! I'm getting all my content to appear in the PDF output. I've still got to track down the particular culprit in my custom CSS, but at least I know that's where the issue lies. I'll report back with my findings once I've got it all worked out, in case some other poor soul comes along looking for answers. :)
