Filter in the Content Explorer

Post by pdxwordsmith »

Is there some magic incantation I need to mutter to get Flare to clear the Filter? I tried selecting All Files and Topic Files, but the Filter is still in effect....

For example, I filter by "*Feed*", then try remove the filter to see all files, but Flare ignores me:

Thanks,

Your screenshot shows that you're in the "Show Files" view, which only displays the contents of the currently selected folder. Similar to folders view in Windows Explorer. If you want to see ALL of the topics in the project, then you have to use the File List view (go to View > File List, if memory serves).

Thanks.

What if I want to see all the files in the current folder? Clearing the Filter doesn't seem to work.

The *.* is indicating that all files are being shown, but again, only for the selected folder, which in your screenshot is the folder called "Bcast". Are you saying there are more files that should be appearing in the "Bcast" folder, or are you saying you want to see the contents of the parent folder (iTV-Manager) and all of its children folder (root, Bcast, Hidden)? That you can't do -- you can either see the contents of a single folder using "Show Files" or see the contents of the entire project using the File List.

The folder contains loads of other (plain old .htm) files. I'm filtering for files with "Feed" in the name. When I remove the filter, I can't get the other files to reappear unless I close the Content Explorer and reopen it. Wondering if there's a refresh button associated with the Filter field that is somehow missing from my copy :?

(Is it just me - can others successfully remove the filter?)

Ok, I get what the problem is. You probably just deleted the characters from the filter field, right, and expected that to be the same as removing the filter? Apparently it doesn't work like that. You need to click the drop-down menu and select All files (*.*) or manually type *.* in the filter field, which sets it back to all files.

You can submit a feature request at http://www.madcapsoftware.com/bugs/submit.aspx asking for a change in behavior. It took me awhile to figure out how to enter anything into the Filter field at all, since my Content Explorer pane was a bit too narrow to show the textbox and I didn't initially associate the drop-down arrow and straight bar at right with the Filter field. Seems the Filter textbox is a set width and won't display if the pane isn't wide enough. That's not the best behavior.

Actually, I tried a blank Filter, selecting "*.*" and selecting "*.htm*", but none of those work to bring back the full folder listing. I guess it's just me.

What version of Flare are you running? Maybe it was a bug in earlier versions -- I'm running v6.

One other thing that I guess could be possible... Is your project on your local computer or on a networked drive? There are other problems/delays in the Content Explorer related to working on a project on a networked drive. This could be another issue related to that.

V6. No big deal - I can just close and reopen. Just annoying. Thanks!
