Can order be set in Browser?
Can order be set in Browser?
When I do an Insert, the browser default shows the List in inversere DateTime order. It would be helpful for it to be in alphabetical order. Can I change it? If so, how?

Re: Can order be set in Browser?
Hi!
What are you trying to insert--a picture, a variable, a snippet, etc?
Each type of insert has a slightly different "Insert" window, but most of them have a section that's sortable. For example, if I'm inserting a picture, I get the "Insert Picture" window, and there's a pane called "All images in the project" where I can sort by File Name, Type, and Path Name just by clicking those headers.

Re: Can order be set in Browser?
I get the same type of list for images and snippets when I click on the "Browse..." for an Image or the "Browse for a Snippet..." for a Snippet.
An "Open" window is displayed. After it is displayed in the Date/Time order List , I can request the Details and then click on the Name column; however, this causes lots of extra clicks. I would like it to show the Details view in Name (Alpha order) when the browse is selected.
I haven't used variables.

Re: Can order be set in Browser?
As I recall, Flare displays everything based on how you have Windows set. So if you have Windows set to display things by date with newer versions at the top, then Flare will display files in the same manner. If Windows is set to list alphabetically, then Flare will do the same. So... How do you have Windows set to display files in Windows Explorer? Unless the project is stored on a network server, in which case the server might override your Windows Explorer, but I can't remember offhand if that is the case.

When I open a window it lists file in Name - alpha order.
Re: Can order be set in Browser?
Do you use subfolders in your Images folder or your Snippets folder? By default, for me, Flare organizes everything alphabetically, BUT if files are in separate subfolders, it sorts by those subfolders first. So I'll effectively have multiple alphabetically sorted lists, each one based on the subfolder.mitches wrote:I get the same type of list for images and snippets when I click on the "Browse..." for an Image or the "Browse for a Snippet..." for a Snippet.

Re: Can order be set in Browser?
Lisa's got the right idea here. Once you've opened the Insert dialog in Flare and clicked Browse, the next window that opens is a WINDOWS window, not a Flare window. (Assuming you're working on a PC and not a Mac, that is.) In Windows you can tell because on the left side of the window you'll see "My Recent Documents," "Desktop," "My Documents," "My Computer," and "My Network."
So to get THAT window to display automatically in alphabetical order, you have to get Windows folders to show in alphabetical order. Open any Windows folder, such as "My Desktop," and click Name to sort in alphabetical order. Whatever Windows folders you open next will also be in alphabetical order until you change the sort again--it keeps whatever sort you used last. And the next time you browse from Flare, those files should be in alpha-order too. Because I sort my Windows windows alphabetically, when I click Browse in Flare, the files are displayed alphabetically.

Re: Can order be set in Browser?
I think there may be a simpler way. While you are in the Open popup (after you clicked Browse), you can set the sort order directly. To do so:carolynmwallace wrote:Lisa's got the right idea here. 1) Find the View Menu button (it's not labeled, but it has hover text; on Windows XP it's in the top right corner).
2) Click the View Menu button, and from the drop-down, select Details. You will see columns and column headers appear in the window.
3) Find the Name column header (should be the first one in the header) and double-click it until you have the desired alphabetic sorting.
Hope that helps,
Andrew

Re: Can order be set in Browser?
1. I couldn't find the invisible View button.
2. I did open a folder and set it to search on Name.
3. This did not change the order in Flare.
4. I went back to the folder in 2 and did Tools, Folder Options, Apply to All Folders.
5. It is now showing in name order.
Thanks,
skm

Re: Can order be set in Browser?
I had been using the View Menu for months. It adds 4 extra clicks each time you need to find a file.
I was looking for and found, with Carolyn Wallace's help, a much simpler user interface.
Carolyn -- Thank you very much.
