Hyperlinking to another project?

I inherited a monster project that consists of thousands of files. I want to separate this project into several more manageable'child' projects. Most of the time, it should work fine. However, sometimes we will need to create a link from one topic (from child project A) to another topic (in child project B). Is this possible? If so, how?!
