Looking for best practice on images. when there is part of an image you do not want people to see is it better to:
1. Blur the image
2. block out the image
3. cut out the image
Image question
Re: Image question
I use blurring, it's visually less jarring than other methods.

Re: Image question
Use screen portraits instead, that way you can add as little detail as desired and the image still does all you need it to do in the context of documentation.

Re: Image question
It depends on what you want to obscure.
I prefer to crop the image so only meaningful content remains. Unfortunately, snagit's torn edges is better than capture's.
Capture's ability to blur the image outside of a shape is quite good, particulalry if the underlying image has restrained colours. Bright colours bleed through, however, and can be distracting.

Call me picky, but I find it hard to to take seriously a page with four errors in the first paragraph.RamonS wrote:Use screen portraits instead, that way you can add as little detail as desired and the image still does all you need it to do in the context of documentation.

Some mornings it just doesn't seem worth it to gnaw through the leather straps.
Re: Image question
Yeah, I like these too. It's horses for courses really; a portrait is good to indicate the general layout or appearance of a screen, but it's no substitute for when you need to show detail.RamonS wrote:Use screen portraits instead, that way you can add as little detail as desired and the image still does all you need it to do in the context of documentation.

Re: Image question
I agree, but unless I totally misunderstood, the issue here is to show less detail.

I found one, but if you are that offended by it write to Andy Robertson, I am sure he'll fix it. And I do agree with you, writing errors take away credibility.Andrew Heard wrote:Call me picky, but I find it hard to to take seriously a page with four errors in the first paragraph.RamonS wrote:Use screen portraits instead, that way you can add as little detail as desired and the image still does all you need it to do in the context of documentation.
