glossary and seach not updating propoerly

Post by fltii »

i made some changes to the glossary for my webhelp project and also changed the names of some topic titles (under topic properties) to make sure they didn't show old terms when those old terms were searched.

everything showed correctly in the flare interface, but after i built, published and svn committed the changes, the search for the old term gives the same number of hits. and also the glossary updates i did, are not showing.

i did empty the output folder before, when i built the primary target.

please help

You said you changed some glossary items and the topic titles. Did you change the glossary terms both in the Glossary Editor and in those topics where the terms show up?

I don't think glossary terms are like variables-- that is, I don't think changing a term in Glossary Editor changes it globally throughout the project.

I think you'll need your best investigator's hat on for this one :)

Working backwards:
1) Does the same problem occur in the published location (i.e. before SVN check-in?) If not, then there may be a problem with SVN.
2) Does the same problem occur in your output folder? If not, then there may be a problem with Flare publishing.
3) Does the same problem occur in the Flare interface? You mentioned no, therefore there may be a problem with the Flare building process. Try a windows search in your content folder for "containing text" and the old term, that may find something that could isolate the problem (e.g. index, conditional text, keywords, old topics etc).

Cheers

There were two copies of this topic in different places, so I merged them together.

Could be a problem of histories:

Start by deleting the IE history:
1. Open the Internet Explorer (NOT the Mozilla or some other browser)
2. Tools / Options, ... (don't know the english version - am using the german one): Delete the internet files - you can keep the cookies and others.
3. Close ALL windows of the IE.

If your primary target is HTML Help, you need to delete the history of HTML Help, too:
4. Close the HTML Help (in case it's open)
5. Go to your windows user directory (in my case tht is C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\it\)
6. Find a file in that structure: hh.dat
7. Delete it.

wow, that is great... it was just the history... i deleted the cache and cookies on the mozilla browser, re-ran my search... and looked at the glossary and my changes were reflected...

thanks guys!!!
