high-level overview please

Post by cayennep »

I'm finding what's missing from the help is a top-level 'how things work', which would enable me to solve many of the issues I'm having. The descriptions in there just don't seem to apply or work as expected.

If you're looking for a high level overview, have you tried the Flare "Quick Guide" or the "Getting Started Guide"? You can find links to these on the Flare Help Welcome topic.

As to your Word import problem, is your goal to just have a Word file in your Flare project? (As opposed to creating a project from Word.) If that is the case, I don't think you need to import the file, you just need to put a copy of the file in your Flare Content folder. I'm not sure how Flare will handle that when it comes to creating your output, however.

But maybe I'm misunderstanding what you want?

Hi there
thanks for the reply, I've kinda sorted things but still a bit odd how some of it works and not entirely clear. I was able to get some very odd results by not doing things in exactly the right way, which is not ideal.

I need to import Word files, not just a single one, into an existing project, and there's lots of ways to do this - some work, some not so much. I don't need it to stay in Word, it's moving into Flare.

I've looked thru the docs extensively, but thanks for this. I did get a support email detailing the right way to do this, but a bit surprised it's not more intuitive and so many ways to get it really pretty wrong! (eg, not an xml file when trying to open an imported topic).

The way to do it is open the *.flimp (Word Import) file from the Project Organizer, remove the old Word doc from source files, add a new one, and click Reimport - again, not very intuitive, but this works. You can then modify any import settings, style matching & like that, during the import.

Hope this helps someone else
