Search filters in run-time projects

Post by Steveman »

I've searched the search about search and my search found a number of searches - but no real answers.

Having decided that run-time merging was the best way to join all my separate projects together, I get to the search filter part and find that it probably isn't the best way after all. I can make the search filter work fine in each individual source project but I can't get one to work across the whole merged project. I've looked at a few links and the Help and tried setting up a 'dummy' set of concepts in the master file but to no avail.

Is it true that global linking is really the only way to get search filters to work across all of the projects? I'm not really keen to import all of these separate projects into one for the sake of adding a search filter, but I might need to.

I'm pretty sure that's the case, it certainly didn't work in merged projects the last time I tried it.

I agree. Is there any hope that MadCap will fix that soon ? ...
Anyway - Is there at least a way to fade out the drop down list for choosing the search filter then ?
I think it's ridiculous to display it when it is totally useless.

I'm with you on that one. Now that I've specified a filter to use I can't 'un-specify' it so the filter sits there looking all pretty and inviting giving hints of the joyous search treasures that it has to behold, but its only teasing.

After running into this a couple of months ago, I think (if memory serves) I tried removing it from the Advanced tab on the Target first, but that didn't work. So I deleted the search filter set and that removed the drop-down list.
