Order of Files Listed in Content Explorer

Post by jblackwood »

Does anyone know why files listed in the Content Explorer would not be in alphabetical order? I did not used to be this way. I cannot say when it started occurring though. I thought it might have been newly created topics going to the bottom of the list but that does not account for everything. I saw another thread relating to the order in which files are listed, but it was not talking about the Content Explorer. I did do what was suggested in that thread and made sure my files in Windows Explorer were set to display in alphabetical order. That did not fix the problem. It occurs in both v5 and v 6.1.

They display fine for me. Maybe you just have to refresh the screen (press F5). Sometimes i have to close/minimize all the folders back up to the Content level before refreshing.

Is your project hosted on your local machine or on a networked drive?

That's it!!! That's what changed. Our files used to be in source control so we worked on local copies. We are out of source control now, and we work off of a network drive.

Do I need to get to the actual server where the drive resides to correct the issue?

It might depend on what type of file server it's hosted on. You can ask your IT guys if they can change a setting on the server. If it were a Windows box I would still expect your Windows Explorer view to cascade into Flare, but it might be a Unix or other type of server and I'm not sure how they handle file listing.

It's a Windows box. I'll check with our IT. Thanks!

We have seen this before and almost all the time its a setting in your registry.
Content Explorer gets its information from your OS.
Somewhere in there, there is a setting that sorts files up to a certain number. After that, they display in a 'Random' order so to speak.
Because I cannot suggest you go into your registry and make changes, I would suggest you search (Google) 'files display out of order' and research similar issues other people have reported.

If you do find the issue and a fix, please be sure to update this thread so others who experience similar issues can benefit.
