Thumbnails and Image Maps

Do image maps work on thumbnails? I have created image map links on an image that is set to display as a thumbnail and the links do not work when I am viewing the output, the cursor does not change to recognise there is a link there at all.

Hmm... it appears that they don't work.

I wonder if something has been done about this by using exceptions, conditions, etc. I am using v10.2 and it's still not recognising the link in image maps.
