The Link Viewer is very helpful when you're trying to see if an image or topic is used (linked) somewhere in your project. I reduced my project file size by almost 10 MB today because I could delete images that were not used that had come in from a Robohelp import.
To open the Link Viewer, select View > Link Viewer.
Open ANY Flare file (image, topic, skin, target, etc.) in the editor.
The Linked From and Linked To sections of the Link Viewer will show you which files connect to the opened one, if any. You can also see which target the open file is associated with.
If there are no incoming or outgoing links, it should be safe to delete the file.

Re: Link Viewer
It's pretty cool; it actually works a lot like the old link viewer from RoboHelp.
The only problem I have with it is for larger projects. In my large 6000+ topic project, it takes about 30-60 seconds to come up with a list of topics that link to it (even when there are none).

Is that the same when working on a network vs. local drive?Andrew wrote:The only problem I have with it is for larger projects. In my large 6000+ topic project, it takes about 30-60 seconds to come up with a list of topics that link to it (even when there are none).

That project is only on a local drive, so i can't say for sure. Most other projects I've worked on since upgrading from v4.2.1 have been pretty small.lacastle wrote:Is that the same when working on a network vs. local drive?Andrew wrote:The only problem I have with it is for larger projects. (For what it's worth, just about everything regarding filtering through files is slow in that project, including finding hyperlinks, scrolling through folders of a few hundred topic files in the Content Explorer, moving / renaming files, etc.)

Re: Link Viewer
Ouch, that's pretty slow. I have a 2500 topic project on quite a high spec PC, which isn't exactly speedy but still useable (under 10 secs).
Anyway, probably a quicker way to check for unused files is to generate a report; you can list all unused content files and unused images.

Re: Link Viewer
It may have something to do with the number of hyperlinks as well...I think we're somewhere in the 30,000 range. Seriously want to get an SSD for my next computer refresh.Dave Lee wrote:Ouch, that's pretty slow.
