I needed to install a new font for a client project; however, when I try to update the styles in the stylesheet, it's not showing up in the Font Family Picker window.
Tried restarting Flare, and restarting Windows.
Does Flare not like OTF (Open Type Font)?
Environment: Flare 6.1, Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit).

Re: Newly-installed font not appearing in Font Family Picker
A bit more searching in the forums shows that, yes, Flare seems to have trouble with OTF fonts.
So, has anyone had success by manually adding the font to the CSS?

Re: Newly-installed font not appearing in Font Family Picker
You can open the stylesheet file in the Internal Text Editor and manually type the font name in the stylesheet. Use single quotes around the name if it has spaces in it. And make sure you spell it as the system would recognize it.
However, that still won't do you any good, as I believe it's the PDF output that doesn't work with the OTF, so even if you specify it, the output will look wrong.

Turns out that you can type the font name in the Font Family field in the Font Family Picker window.
As far as OTF fonts not appearing in the PDF, ...
Curse it, you're right. Doesn't show up if I output to Word either. What's up with that?

Re: Newly-installed font not appearing in Font Family Picker
Don't know. I would expect it to at least work with PDF because you can embed fonts in PDFs (which is the default behavior with Flare), but I don't know much about OTF so I don't know if it's the build engine they're using to build the PDF output or if PDF in general doesn't support OTF. Likewise with Word, although I would expect Word to support OTF, so I'm leaning more towards it being the engines Flare uses to build those outputs. It works in WebHelp because fonts aren't embedded, they're referenced, however that brings up another point -- you probably don't want to reference OTF for your online output either, because older computers may not have the OTF you referenced installed. If you do still want to reference OTF for online output, make sure you use a font family not a single font. The OTF would be the first font in the family (i.e., if it's available on the computer then it'll be used) with alternates listed after it, such as Verdana (my preferred choice), Arial, and sans-serif.
Make sure you submit a feature request at http://www.madcapsoftware.com/bugs/submit.aspx asking for OTF support in the Stylesheet Editor and print outputs.

Glad to have found this post, but it's disappointing to see OTF isn't supported. I've submitted a feature request. Hopefully others will too.

We need to push this issue! I am certainly doing what I can to get this problem fix. OTF is an ISO and Windows standard, it is supported in a majority of applications (that need to access fonts)... and every one of Flare's competitor products [that I am aware of] support the OTF specification. This lack of support is a big deal because OTF is a superior format (because of commercial typesetting support...glyphs and ligatures, etc.) and many commercial font authors only supply their fonts in OTF, TTF (web only), and Postscript.
But you are correct to call this a bug because that is what it is... this isn't a feature request because it should be a basic requirement for any applicable Windows application.
