Imported Framemaker conditions not applied!...

Post by keuler »

All- I found that when I import a Framemaker document into Flare, the conditions are imported in that they're viewable from the condition editor. However, the conditions don't seem to be applied to text that was conditioned in FM. For example, text with the "Comment" condition in the FM file was imported, but no condition was applied to it once imported. So I'd have to reapply all the conditions after importing. Is this the behavior others experience?

Thx.

What version of Flare and FrameMaker? I had problems with Flare 4 and imported conditions (when appearing at the start of a paragraph and ending part way through) not being applied. I raised a bug and it appears to be fixed though in later versions.

Did you try looking at imported topics in a text editor, and do the Madcap:Conditions appear? Maybe commented text is not obvious in the Flare editor because change bars are not supported in Flare (and that's usually how comments are handled in Frame?) Just a thought

I have the same problem with Flare 6 and FrameMaker 9.

- The NotInHelp condition is applied to some text, graphics, and tables in the FrameMaker file.
- In the Flare project MyWebHelp target, I set the NotInHelp condition to be excluded.

In the generated output, several sections and a graphic appear in the output that should have been excluded.

I applied the NotInHelp condition to all excluded content exactly the same and also reapplied the conditions.

Creating a new project with the same files produced different results--a different set of NotInHelp content showed up.

At the moment, I'm evaluating Flare. This conditional text issue makes me hesitant to purchase Flare, because our docs are heavy in conditional text. And I don't think the problem is user error.

I would definitely suggest you contact the Flare Sales team, who can put you in touch with a techie to help you through it. If you're considering buying the product but are put off by what you perceive as a must-have that you haven't found, they'll be sure to show you how to do it so you won't be put off buying.
