Search and replace cross references

Post by sjensen06 »

I have several dozen cross references that I need to change, and I need to find out if there's a way to search and replace cross references (ex: MadCap:xref with MadCap:xref.standard). I have tried using the Global Search and Replace but it doesn't seem to work correctly. Not sure why. Should this kind of Search & Replace work? Any suggestions or hints?

I'm assuming "standard" is a class of xref that you created. You'd need to search on MadCap:xref and replace it with MadCap:xref class="standard". Make sure you have the find feature set to find in source code.

Note, however, that doing this find-and-replace will apply to all cross-references in your project, including ones that already have the standard class applied to them. You might be better using the regular expressions option to search for a MadCap:xref tag that doesn't contain class="standard". Apparently you can't use regular expressions in the replace field, though, so you might want to look at a find-and-replace tool outside of Flare to do both the find and replace using regular expressions.
