Display of long tables in the pdf output

Post by Dodo1 »

Please, can anyone help me with the print of a table approximately 5 pages long?

I have a chapter in appendices, which consists of only the chapter title, table title and then the table. No matter what I do, the topic is displayed as first page - only the chapter title, second page, table title followed by the table itself. It looks weird. I have a feeling that the table tries to fit in the white space on the first page behind the chapter title, but fails at that, so it moves to the next page (longer one by the chapter title height, tries it there, again fails, but prints there nonetheless, correctly breaking to several pages until the end of the table.

I have tried putting the page-break-after: avoid tag to the chapter title, the page-break-before: avoid tag to the table title, but to no avail. The table (along with its title) still breaks. On a interesting note, the table title sticks to the table well, don't know for which reason.

The stylesheets (both the styles.css and the table.css used for the tables) does not have any properties on the page-break set, aside from the definition of the picture description (page-break-before: avoid) and the tables description (page-break-after: avoid). Any hints?

It is not acceptable to force-break the table into two, as the topic is also used for the chm build and the table has to be in one piece there. Also, having two tables is not acceptable because the information in the table will change from time to time and having two tables is the fastest way to give contradicting information. I have tried to search these forums, but didn't find a topic that would touch this, so I believe that I simply do something wrong, surely somebody would have run into similar problem before me. I use Flare v6, just for the record.

I experienced the same thing while testing what happens to table breaks for a multi-page table. I have an h1 for the Chapter, an h2 for the table title followed by the table. Initially, once the table became longer than the page, the h2 and the table broke to the next page.
I found that I could prevent this by setting the page-break-after property to "auto" on the PrintSupport property for the h2 in the styles.css file.
My complete set of PrintSupport properties for the h2 are:
column-break-after = avoid
mc-heading-level = 2
page-break-after = auto
page-break-before = avoid

I would be interested to hear if this works for you.

Also keep in mind that if you make changes to the styles.css for Medium = print, you can have different settings in the styles.css for whatever medium you may be using for non-print output. In my case, this is the default medium.

By the way, you wouldn't happen to know how to force a break in a table at a specific row would you?
