Search - Topics not Found

Post by Techno »

Flare 6.1.0. I'm completely stuck on what may be wrong with my Search" setup. I've associated Target with Skin, but when I attempt to search for even a word in the Index, it says "Topics not found". I've studied Flare's help until I'm blue in the face, but nothing is jumping out of the page.
Any suggestions, however wild - or should I just call support?

Your question mentions that you're searching in the Index. Are you confusing the Index with the Search? If you haven't set up any keywords for the Index, then the Index won't find anything. What happens when you search in Search?

Sorry, still very much of a newbie. I was in fact using the Search option. I only meant that to be sure whatever I was searching for, I'd selected some words which were in the Index.

As luck would have it, I found Vaugn's message of April 28, 2008 with the same problem, albeit for Flare v3. There it mentioned MJ's Help Diagnostics. So I worked though that, and hey presto! I now have Search working. :D

The only oddity now is that having re-built the project, a .chw file has appeared along with my .chm.

Hi all,

I too have a dead search function in my project after associating a skin with the target. (I am running on WIN 7, 32-BIT)

But, when I try to reregister the DLL as described in the Knowledge Base article, I get the following error:

Module itcc.dll was loaded, but the call to DLLREGISTER server failed with error code 0x80070005
What does this indicate? A Flare issue or Windows issue?

How can I fix it?

Thanks,
cb

This error appears usually because you have either not logged in and run as Administrator, or have User Account Control (UAC) turned on.

(You'll find more via Google if that doesn't work.)

Just a note to Windows 7 users...

The KnowledgeBase article implies that only 64-bit Win 7 systems need to run the registration exe from a cmd session as Admin.

In fact, this was necessary on my 32-bit Win 7 system also.

Once I got the DLL registered, Search worked great!

Thanks to all for the helpul input.

Hi,

The knowledge base solution worked fine!!!!! Wish I'd seen this earlier!!! I need to rebuild a few more help systems that mirror the WebHelp systems.

Is there a newsletter I'm not getting that provides these great hints and tips? or is there a more convenient place where I can see all of the fixes I might need to apply to my version of Flare.

My primary interface to support is the product forums ... Is there a way to flag certain topics as really important to look at and deal with?

Any thoughts or pointers appreciated!!!

Regards, Bruce

Open those important topics and add them as favorites or bookmarks in your browser. You can edit the names of the bookmarks so you know precisely what that page contains, and you can group those bookmarks into a folder and even put that folder into your link bar.
This is how mine looks:

Brilliant. Thanks for the question and answer. Worked like a charm. For the record, I needed to perform the steps for 64-bit Win 7 on my 32-bit install as well.

Win7 users get error code 0x80070005 trying to register the Itcc must "run as Administrator."

To run as Admin:

Click Start > All Programs > Accessories
R-click Command Prompt
Click Run as Administrator
At the command prompt, run the RegisterItcc.bat by typing in the path & file name. Press Return.
HINT: To paste the clipboard (path) into the Command Prompt window, R-click. But first make sure the prompt is at the C:\ directory (by using the CD command. [cd ..\]
