Unable to insert multimedia file - don't understand warning

Post by Jillian »

Hoping somebody can point me in the direction of what I am doing incorrectly - I am _extremely_ new to this entire field, so apologies if this is something terribly obvious.

I am attempting to add some small .mpg files to documents within my project.

Isuccesfully added one file, as I was just testing it out. I deleted it, and now am trying again. However, I continually receive a warning box which says:

MadCap Flare V6
Failed to run command 'Windows Media Player...'.
Exception: Win32 handle that was passed to Icon is not valid or is the wrong type.

I would appreciate any advice you can offer about how I can get around this problem :)

How are you trying to add this file? What happens when you just put it in the Content Explorer folder via Windows Explorer (not through the Flare interface)?

Are you trying to import it somehow? (why did you post this in the importing forum?)

by the way, welcome to the forums! :D

I go to Insert > Multimedia > Windows Media Player, then select the file (from a CD i have in my D: drive). It shows in the preview window - I get the error message after I click on OK.

It copies over fine. The file also plays normally from the CD, or from the C drive. I just can't get it to be embedded on the resource.

Probably a symptom of my noobishness - thinking that inserting a multimedia file was a kind of importing? Feel free to move me !

I did get the same kind of error. My graphical card was crashed and I was just publishing a Flare project. At a certain moment I powered off the PC and installed a new graphical card.
Then this message appeared.

Our network administrator helped me out, but had to dig very deep. Happily he was able to help me out. He found the following procedure at microsoft and now everything is working nice and beautifull again (pffff).
