Selectively Applying Glossary Links

I know that you can have Flare automatically apply glossary term links to the first instance of a term in a topic or only add the links for terms you have marked manually. My question is, are these choices all one way or all the other? For some terms that are very common I'd like to manually place the links but for others I'd like to go with the first instance option. In reading the help it looks like I can only do one or the other for all terms, but I thought I'd double check here.
