manual variable links

Post by helseykc »

Hello.

This is my first post, so be kind :)

I am trying to use manual variable links in my TOC:

[%=Variables_Global.variable1%] and xxx
[%=Variables_Global.variable1%], [%=Variables_Global.variable2%] and xxx

to produce an output of:

abc and xxx
abc, 123 and xxx

This works fine when I create online output but not when I create a PDF. When I do the latter the first TOC entry is fine ("abc and xxx") but the second TOC entry just displays " and ", missing out the variables entirely... This is the same for the TOC and for the contents page (made using a TOC proxy).

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Helen

Are the Variables located in the Heading of the topics?
Print TOCs differ than Online TOCs.

Hi Rob,

Yes, the variables are in the heading of the topics, and then I have them in the labels for the TOC entry...

Are the variables in topics you have conditionally excluded from your build (via the target file)? That has led to some vanishing variables for me in the past.

no, I have not removed them from the target (I'm not sure I'd know how to do that but I've just checked and I don't think I've done it inadvertently)...

Absolutely no idea how or why it fixed the problem, but I recreated the heading in the topic, and dragged it to the TOC and it's fine now...
