Hi all,
Quick question.
Can you single source a TOC?
I have 12 'books' that are created for print output. These 12 books make up the Webhelp that we also create.
I'd like to be able to use these 12 TOCs to make up the main TOC. Makes it much easier to maintain the labels, levels and everything else between.
Thanks.
Nick.

Re: single source a TOC?
Yes, I use one TOC for both online and print. I use conditions at the topic level to restrict any topics that shouldn't appear in one output or the other. For any topic that is to appear in both outputs but that I don't want to show up as an entry in the TOC pane of the online output, then I'll apply a condition to the TOC entry but not the topic.
BTW, even when I condition at a topic level I generally also condition the corresponding TOC entry. I don't need to -- conditioning the topic will control whether or not the TOC entry is included, too. But it's easier to tell at a glance when looking at the TOC which topics will/won't be in a particular output by looking at the conditional color on that TOC entry.
The only time I create a new TOC is for one-off testing (e.g., I only want to test how one or two topics appear in the output without having to build the whole thing), or if I'm going to have another output that has only a fraction of the topics in the project. For instance, a 2 or 3 page getting started guide -- it's easier to create a new TOC that has one or two topics in it than to condition dozens of topics and/or TOC entries.
