Dear forum colleagues,
maybe I was not clear enough in my first post. But ... I would like to know if next idea is possible and maybe sombody can point me in the right direction.
I'm busy to create a big Help for our machines (incl. software). At the end the Help will be written in several languages.
I'm thinking to create a small main project to select the wanted language (eg. HELP-00.flprj).
Selecting a language (eg. Dutch) will start the language project (eg. HELP-31.flprj).
Within this project a machine depending project (eg. FCS-31.flprj) and software project (eg. IMS-31.flprj) must be imported to get a complete Help.
Figure:
Start (desktop icon) >> HELP-00.flprj
------------------------------ [Dutch] >> HELP-31.flprj
------------------------------------------------ +/+ import {FCS-31.flprj}
------------------------------------------------ +/+ import {IMS-31.flprj}
I will be very interested in your reply (ideas and sollutions).

Re: Starting projects from a main project
Can you just make a regular html page (outside of Flare) that has hyperlinks to each of your manuals in different languages? i don't think you need to create a whole project for each of the starting steps.
you would have links like:
Dutch Software Help
Dutch Machine Help
English Software Help
English Machine Help
French Software Help
French Machine Help
each would like to the default.html page (or whatever you named it in Flare) of the appropriate Flare project.
or just link to the appropriate help through the software/machine interface instead of a linking them all from a separate place.
how are the manuals going to be accessed by your users? will they be saved on a web server, or stored on the individual's computer?
(by the way, this isn't really an importing issue. Importing means taking outside content from Word or FrameMaker, etc. and pulling it into Flare.)

Re: Starting projects from a main project
I don't have anything to offer the original poster, but importing is not only about taking outside content from Word or FrameMaker and pulling it into Flare. The whole idea of Global Project Linking in Flare is to have content from a global Flare project pulled into a local/child Flare project by way of an import file in which include/exclude rules are defined. This might be exactly what the original poster is wondering about.lacastle wrote:(by the way, this isn't really an importing issue. I'd see if the application developers can set the path to the help file correctly so that the help uses the same language as the application. That way the language selection for help will get covered by the process that sets the language for the application itself.

Re: Starting projects from a main project
Thanx for all of your reply but as base I dont want to have web access on our machine control computer.
So, creating html (which will opens a browser) is out of the question. Simply while there is no web browser present on the computer.
Thats why I suggest to start with a simple flare project to select a language.
Hope for some interessting reply,

As mentioned before, the best solution would be to control that from within the application.
