Changes to MadCap generated styles

Post by NorthEast »

For anyone who has 'tweaked' their stylesheet and modifies any of MadCap's generated styles, it's worth noting that some of the generated style names appear to have been changed in v7. It's broken our stylesheet, which I suppose is the risk of tweaking; but it's annoying as most of my tweaks were to fix things that didn't work properly in Flare's styles.

Anyway, the type of change I've found is a '_0' being appended to many style classes; e.g.:

div.MCDropDown_0
div.MCDropDownHead_0
a.MCDropDownHotSpot_0
div.MCDropDownBody_0

div.MCMiniTocBox_0

div.MCBreadcrumbsBox_0

div.MCRelationshipsProxy_0

p.conceptHeading_concept_0
p.conceptItem_concept_0
a.MCConceptLink_0

a.MCRelatedTopics_0

p.MiniTOC1_0, p.MiniTOC2_0, p.MiniTOC3_0, etc.

a.MCToggler_0

a.MCXref_0

Thanks for posting this, Dave. I thought I was going insane this morning when my drop-down header wouldn't do as it was told! :wink:

Has anyone from MadCap offered an explanation for the changes? Has anyone from MadCap documented these changes, making sure nothing is missing? Thank you.

No, but I haven't asked anyone at MadCap.
I wouldn't expect them to document these styles anyway, only the MadCap|... styles.

Like I say though, these are the generated styles; so it's the risk you take if you're tweaking stuff behind the scenes.

My WebHelp miniTOCProxy now doesn't indent each level (margin-left: 2em, then 4em, then 6em, etc.) like it did in v6.1. Modifying p.MiniTOC1 etc. doesn't address the new p.MiniTOC1_0's. What to do?

Thanks again for posting this -- I just upgraded from 6 to 8 and it was very useful to have this handy for reference.

I've noticed some changes for HTML5 help in v8.

So far, I've noticed things like different styles used for drop downs.
For example, the dropdown structure in HTML5:

Code: Select all

<div class="MCDropDown MCDropDown_Closed dropDown">
  <span class="MCDropDownHead dropDownHead">
     <span class="MCDropDownHotSpot dropDownHotspot MCDropDownHotSpot_">
  <div class="MCDropDownBody dropDownBody">
* The _Closed class changes to _Open.

And the equivalent in WebHelp:

Code: Select all

<div class="MCDropDown_0">
  <div class="MCDropDownHead_0">
    <a class="MCDropDownHotSpot_0">
  <div class="MCDropDownBody_0" >
Anyway, I'm guessing there's probably a few other things that have changed too.

It would be nice if they posted info like this in the release notes or a KB article.
