global file and replace: churns a lot, does not Replace!

Post by samjones6 »

Say there, what is up with this?

When I do the "Find Next" in an open file, it does the replace fine.

But when I set it to "all docs in same folder", and hit Start, it finds a lot of hits, but does not do the replace.

Using v6.1 from past June.

Please advise!

The Find and Replace tool does take a little getting used to. It's not terribly intuitive.

Are you sure that Find Next is replacing? I would guess that it's doing exactly what its label says, finding the next occurrence.

After you click Start and Flare finds the first occurrence, do you then click Replace All (which will replace all occurrences in the current file) or Replace in All Files (which will replace all occurrences in the folder, since you've set Find In to "documents in same folder")?

If you use Replace All, the tool will pause after dealing with the current file. Click either Find Next or the >> button above Start to continue to the next file in the folder.

Hope this helps.

That is an understatement!

I just used one of my support calls to figure this out (crazy!).

The issue: you have to check the "find in source code" checkbox if you are trying to operate against the xml/html itself.

Intuitive... NOT (never had such an issue in robohelp...).

The Flare help says "Find in source code Flare includes the source code of the documents in the search."

That doesn't really explain things, does it?

In my book, "source code" <> xml / html ....

ahhhh, transitions....
