Dropdowns in lists

When I place a dropdown in an <li> the collapsed state is visually fine. When the dropdown is expanded the bullet (unordered) or number (ordered) drops down near the bottom of the dropdown body. Is there a way through CSS or otherwise for the bullet or number to not move (ideally, not even flicker) when the dropdown state switches between collapsed and expanded?

You could try setting a vertical-align on the li tag, but I don't know if that's a valid attribute for that tag.
