PDF Compiler: "Topic was included in the Flare TOC more than

Post by samjones6 »

Hello!

I have a project that migrated from robohelp X5 to Flare 6.1.

When I compile PDF, I get a lot of these messages:
Topic was included in the Flare TOC more than once. The content will still be exported to the output more than once.

Does this mean content is getting duplicated in the PDF?

Yes.... in fact I see that it IS getting duplicated in the PDF.

Does this mean that I need to maintain TWO TOC's, one for PDF and one for chm/web help ?

No this doesn't mean that you need to maintain two separate TOCs. However, it does mean that you've got duplicate entries on your TOC, that is, two (or more?) TOC entries pointing to the same topic. Is that what you intend for the PDF? If not, perhaps some of the TOC entries should be conditioned only to appear in the Help output and not the PDF output.

No. It is what we want in chm and web help.

PDF does not need em twice.

Sounds fair... but how do I identify which topics are in the TOC twice?

When you generate the PDF, you're getting a "Topic was included in the Flare TOC more than once" error, right? You can do either of these:
1) In the Build Progress dialog on the Errors tab, scroll all the way to the right and you'll see which topic threw the error.
2) In the Build Progress dialog, click Save Log and close the dialog. Then go to Project Organizer > Reports and open the saved log. You'll see which topic is throwing the error.

In either case, you'll then need to hunt a little in your TOC to see where that topic is being called more than once. If you're comfortable working in the internal text editor, open the TOC in there (right-click it and select Open with > Internal Text Editor). Then use the Find and Replace window (Edit > FInd and Replace > Find and Replace) to search for the filename of the topic.

Hope this gives you enough to go on.

Ohohohohoh... BETTER YET: You can generate a custom report to look for "Duplicate TOC Items"!! That should be MUCH better than what I've outlined above...
