I commonly cut-and-paste SQL query results from MS SQL Server into Flare topics.
In Flare 6 this was simple - CTRL-C the results grid in SQL Server, CTRL-V into a topic. The Paste Text dialog comes up and I select the Paste as a table option.
Not so in Flare 7 - just pastes as text. Same whether pasting from Excel or from a table in Word.
The help says that you can invoke the Paste Text option from the Paste button - this does not work.
Am I missing something? Or is it, as I suspect, a bug?
BTW I went back and checked in Flare 6 - works as described.
Flare 7 no longer allows Paste as Table?

Flare 7 no longer allows Paste as Table?
Some mornings it just doesn't seem worth it to gnaw through the leather straps.

You mean the Paste Table option?Andrew Heard wrote:The help says that you can invoke the Paste Text option from the Paste button - this does not work.
It works for me from Excel and Word (2007); haven't tried SQL server.

Re: Flare 7 no longer allows Paste as Table?
Yes, it is still possible in Flare 7. The interface for this functionality has changed in Flare 7, so it's easy to overlook the first time you paste something.
Now, when you paste something from another program, there is a little Paste icon to the lower right of the pasted stuff. Click that Paste icon and then select how you want the stuff to be inserted. Among the options are pasting as a table.
Note that you can set the default behavior for pasting. If you expect to be pasting a lot of tables, then set the paste as table as the default behavior.
Here's the relevant excerpt from the Flare 7 Help topic "Pasting Text from Other Programs":

4.(Optional) If you want to change the way the content is added to the file, click the paste icon and select the option that best suits your needs.
â– Paste Paragraphs Select this option if you want to paste the text as regular paragraphs. The pasted text will take on the style of the location where its being pasted. New paragraphs will become default paragraphs.
â– Paste Paragraph Block Select this option if you want to paste the text as paragraph blocks, such as <div>, <blockquote>, or <fieldset>. For more information about these types of styles, see Creating Tag Groups.
â– Paste Inline Text Select this option if you want to paste the text as inline text, so that it takes on the style of the location where it is being pasted. If you have copied multiple lines of text from the source document and use this option, the text will be pasted in one line, not multiple lines.
â– Paste Table Select this option if you want to paste the text into a table.
â– Paste List Select this option if you want to paste the text as a list.
â– Paste HTML Select this option if you want to paste text from an HTML source, such as a website.
â– Set Default Select this option to open the Default Behavior dialog. Then choose the type of behavior you want to use automatically when performing this action in the future, and click OK. See Setting the Default Paste Behavior.

No I actually meant the Paste Text dialog. From which you could choose to paste as a table.Dave Lee wrote:You mean the Paste Table option?

Ah - I must have missed that.Nita Beck wrote:Yes, it is still possible in Flare 7. The interface for this functionality has changed in Flare 7, so it's easy to overlook the first time you paste something.

I did read that and tried to follow it in the GUI - the behaviour wasn't clear to me. I'll try again.Nita Beck wrote:Here's the relevant excerpt from the Flare 7 Help topic "Pasting Text from Other Programs":...

Rightio - reporting back.
Works just as Nita said. Is an improvement on previous, to my mind.
(Note to self: Read the instructions properly.)

Wow, what a bizarre UI design choice. Very confusing if you're used to Flare ... or any other application I've ever used!

You know what's really bad about this UI? If you paste at the bottom of the topic, the icon for the pop-up menu is not visible, you have to scroll down to see it.
Re: Flare 7 no longer allows Paste as Table?
Yep, I've noticed that too.
I didn't think the new UI itself was that strange though, it's a direct copy of how the paste in Word works (at least Word 2007 anyway).
