Flare > RoboHelp > Flare > RoboHelp!

Post by helen »

Okay, I'm in the situation where I have a Flare v7 license and love it. I need to collaborate with another author who uses a relatively recent version of RoboHelp (I'm not sure exactly which one yet).

I need to find the easiest way to share contents between Flare and RoboHelp, moving it back and forth, if that makes sense. I have no RoboHelp experience, I don't know what is under the hood until i know the version (I think?) so I'm struggling to get any ideas together for how best to proceed.

They refuse to buy Flare, I refuse to buy RoboHelp! :D

Any ideas guys and gals? :flare:

Does RoboHelp import Flare projects?

Interesting idea, I don't know - I will see RoboHelp for the first time in an hour or so, I will find out. First, more tea before the jet lag catches up with me...!

I don't think you're going to be able to do a continuous back-and-forth sharing of the projects because Flare has features that RoboHelp doesn't have and vice versa, and continuous importing either way could keep stripping out code one or the other of you needs.

What you should probably do is designate one of you (I nominate you!) to be the one to generate the output. You can then get a Contributor license for your RoboHelp user so he can go in and modify the content of the topics. I haven't played with Contributor yet, so I don't know if it will allow him to insert snippets, create togglers, etc., so you'll probably still have to review the topics after he's made his changes to dress them up and keep them consistent with the other topics.

Ahh, see, that's why I need tea! I think I need to get the workflow for both of us nailed down, but, that's definitely an avenue to explore. I have a Contributor license I could allow my colleague to use IIRC.

Thanks! Another excellent idea I can explore and propose. Got to love company acquisitions, they do present challenges!
