Hi,
I have Flare 6.1 and I've recently upgraded to Framemaker 10. I want to import one of my FM books into Flare, but i get a message saying "Adobe Framemaker is required to import Framemaker files."
Has anyone else run into this issue? I tried to reinstalling Flare, but i still get this message.
Thanks!

Re: Flare 6.1 and FM10 Issue - Flare cannot find FM
I have a similar issue with Flare 7.2 and Framemaker 10 as part of TCS 3.5
I tried to import a Frame 10 book to Flare and got a message that the frame files were not the version Flare expected.
I can get past this 'can't find framemaker' issue by opening Framemaker 10 prior to importing.
But the next error I have not found a workaround for - TCS 3.5, which was installed after Flare 7, uninstalled Acrobat 8 and installed Acrobat X.
Flare seems unable to open the Acrobat X distiller, so importing anything inside an anchored frame fails.
Not sure how I can get Flare to recognize Acrobat X. I am going to try opening distiller X prior to import but i am not optimistic.
I don't want to try to uninstall Flare and re-install to make this work.
Is the Flare to Adobe connection somewhere in a config file that I can update to point to Acrobat X and Framemaker 10?
Postscript - in the test I just ran, Framemaker 10 crashed with an internal error, but Flare found both Framemaker 10 and Acrobat X.
Flare opened a separate instance of Acrobat X and converted the anchored frames, so maybe it was a one time blip on the radar.
Will try again without opening Frame and X, with different input. Still not pleased.

I'm having this same issue. FrameMaker 10 and Flare 6.1 says "FrameMaker is Required..." Any fix for this?

Does it make a difference when you run Flare with administrator privileges? Maybe Flare is not allowed to read the necessary values from the registry given the current user rights.

Yes, I have administrator privileges to my machine.

The only other idea I'd have is to reinstall FM.

Did you install Framemaker 10 after Flare v6? If so, you might need to reinstall Flare v6 so that it picks up that there's a new version on the system.

If re-installing doesn't work, I would check with MadCap Tech Support. FrameMaker V10 was released after Flare V6, so I don't know how Flare V6 could know of its existence or what it is called. Maybe the name or location of the FM executable changed. I don't know how Flare "recognizes" that software is installed other than by its executable name; but Tech Support can surely tell you.

Thanks. I'll try the reinstalls first and see if that helps.
