I renamed a lot of files in the content explorer. For each renamed file, I clicked the "Update Links" button in the link update dialog.
When I regenerated the project, hyperlinks were resolved to the new filenames but the cross-references were not. These are all internal links.
Even if I go into a topic and select Tools > Update Cross References, it says the file does not exist: the cross reference still points to the old filename.
Am I missing a step?
Links update but cross-references do not?

Re: Links update but cross-references do not?
Renaming the file name doesnt change the content of where the X-Reference is pointing to.
X-Refs point to specific content in topics. Unless that content changes, the text in the link will remain the same.
Open the topic in the Text editor and located the X-Ref. Does it still point to the old topic or the newly renamed one?

Thanks for your reply. I should have clarified: it wasn't the link text I expected to change, it was the underlying reference. For example, I renamed a topic from "Configuring for Failover.htm" to "config_for_failover.htm" and this is what still appeared for all cross-references:rhollinger wrote: Open the topic in the Text editor and located the X-Ref. Code: Select all
<MadCap:xref href="../8_configuring/Configuring for Failover.htm" target="" title="" alt="">"Configuring FME Server for Failover" on page 1</MadCap:xref>I ended up manually fixing them in the text editor for each topic, but it surprises me that Flare would not update both hyperlinks and cross-references when a referenced filename changes.

That looks like a bad oversight. 'specially since cross-references were spruiked in the recent jumpstart. I've started using cross-refs instead of hyperlinks. May reconsider.
Some mornings it just doesn't seem worth it to gnaw through the leather straps.
